July 9, 2019 Burgos to Leon

So today was skip ahead day. Last night, I met up with my Camino family and said goodbye. Bitter sweet to be sure.

Today, I slept in just a bit, took a nice long shower, and packed up and headed to the Burgos Rosa de Lima train station. I took a taxi, as there wasn’t a bus. The driver was very nice, and my Spanish is getting better.

The train was delayed almost an hour, so I was later than I had planned in getting to Sahagun. I have really been looking forward to this place for two reasons. First, it is the halfway mark of the Camino. That means I have traveled 395 k. Ok, not all walking, but still! Also, in Sahagun you can get a media compostela, or a halfway compostela.

Knowing I was late, I hot-footed to the Santuario de la Virgen Peregrina. This is an old church/monistary that has been converted into a museum. Wouldn’t you know it, I missed the closing time by 20 minutes. So you know, the sidewalks roll up between 2 and 5 every day. Siesta time.

Getting this was important to me, so I walked around the town, found a small mercado that was about to close, and bought a cold drink. I then found a small park to eat my lunch, and had a nice picnic. At 430, I was back at the church. The lady was so nice, and I gave her my credential and voils, I got my compostela. It is so pretty. I’m so glad I waited.

I went over to the train station, and caught the next train for Leon. Once there, I found my hostel for the nice. It is really nice, and there is only one other person in my room. He’s out, so I am hitting the hay early. Tomorrow I begin walking again.
