Today was the day to do a bunch of “stuff”. First stop was to meet up with Jasna. We went to the Pilgrim Office together to get our compostelas. These are certificates of completion. You stand in a line, and when it’s your turn, you go to the counter and present your credentials that you have been getting stamped along the way. I had them add Vicarie Pro to mine, which means in memory of for my John. I also got a distance certificate.
After finishing that up, it was time for a coffee and then off to the Cathedral. They have been renovating it for many years, and there isnt much to see on the inside. You can still see some of the main altar. The biggest prize, though, is to see the crypt of St. James. You go down a small narrow staircase, and there it is.
After that. You line up to hug the statue of St. James. This may sound a little wierd, but it is a practice that has been going on for centuries. When it was my turn, I found that I was deeply moved. There was such a sense of tradition and you could almost feel the millions of people who passed before you. Very moving.
After we left the cathedral, we both felt like it was time to move from pilgrim to tourist, so we went shopping. We had a great time.
