July 16, 2019 Las Herrerias to Triacastela

Today was quite the adventure. First, the hostel I stayed in last night was BEAUTIFUL. I splurged a bit and got a private room. It was brand new, and squeaky clean. I walked around town and ran into Kay and JoAnn, the teacher from Florida and the teacher from Ireland. We ate a delicious dinner together, and we all abuzz when Victor, the horse guy, joined us for drinks. Las Herrerias is a very small town, and I think Victor is something of a celebrity. We were treated to a homemade concoction that was like a berry moonshine. Very delish. This morning we all had a bit of a sleep in, and went down to Victor’s house to get on the horses. My horse was named Bonnie, and I was put in the lead.We travelled up and down for two hours. It would have been a terrible climb, so I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the ride. When we got to O Cebreiro, Victor ordered a combination of red wine and lemonade for all. It was so good. Here in Spain, if you order only a drink, they usually give you appetizers for free. We had pig ears and pulp. It was amazing. Finally we separated and went on our way. I needed a rest day, so I took a taxi to Tricastela. I have a nice room, and am tucked in for the night. All is well.
