July 10, 2019 Leon to San Martin del Camino

What a wonderful day! I left Leon little late, around 6:45, and headed out. It took over an hour to get out of the city limits. It was very cool, so that was a relief.

As I walked, I needed to stop and fix my foot. It is strapped up pretty good to hold a metatarsal pad in place. No sooner did I sit down and take of my socks when along came a sweet group of pilgrims asking if they could help me. The pilgrim attitude of giving was abundantly clear.

I motored on all day. It was a fairly flat day, with not too much incline. One town I went through had a really modern church, at least from the outside. When you got in, they had taken their original altar, probably 1400s, and built a new church around it. The juxtaposition was striking.

I met s very sweet couple from Iowa. They are Methodist ministers. We met at each stop and had a wonderful talk.

Tonight I am staying in a lovely albuergue. I got the last room, and it’s a private bed, so while I didn’t want to spend the extra, it’s very nice. We had a wonderful communal meal of the best food I’ve had since I got here. The folks from Iowa are here, as well as a family from Nebraska and a fellow from Paris. Altogether a good day.
